2012 UFO's - quilting projects
|
The Stars
Lets start with this yellow and blue star quilt top. The completed star blocks were made ten years ago and I never really like the way the middle of them poked up and wouldn't sit flat. They were brought out so many times and shown to many quilting friends but nothing jumped out and said put me together as a quilt top. That was until ANZAC day, I sat in my craftyoffice early in the morning & vowed that I was not going anywhere until I had joined the blocks. Funny thing is that is all fell into place, even managed to get the centers to sit flat with a bit of a clip from my new purchase of Fiskars micro tip scissors. New step will be the batting and backing and back to the machine for some quilting. One UFO will then be out of my hair.

Charm Squares
The Charm squares bordered with the rose fabric, this was the first time that I had ever bought a Charm Pack and didn't know what to do with it. So I joined the fabric squares and kept adding more fabric borders until it got to the size that would make a single bed cover.

This one's mine.
The Heart Quilt - What can I say about this one. DH claimed my first attempt at a Heart quilt so I was determined to make another for myself. The fabric cut, the hearts cut, machine on, some blocks completed & then overkill had enough of making hearts. Project put to one side, back to the bottom of the pile. Then the urge to do something with the blocks came & as quick as the blink of an eyelid I had the extra blocks finished & the whole quilt top made. Another waiting the batting & backing.

Yuck
Better
From yuck to better. Wanting to use up my scraps of fabric from other quilts I began sewing together 21/2"squares into rows to make 4x4 blocks. Laid them on the bed to arrange them into some sort of pleasing order, took the photo to remind me of how they were set out. Hm looked at the photo and went yuck, it did nothing for me, gathered up the blocks and they went to the bottom of the UFO pile. Off to the library just might have a look at some of the quilting books, might learn something new. Home came a large pile of interesting and inspiring books, so inspiring the blocks came back out of the UFO pile. They were rearranged more fabric added and "Hey presto" a much better quilt top was created. Looking forward to adding the batting and backing to this one.

Quilt for Jacob
Dearest DH asked me very nicely if I would make a quilt for the latest Grandson just turned one. So this quilt started to grow thanks to a good friend throwing ideas at me. The background is one piece of fabric with the blocks laid on top, blanket stitched in place and then turned over so that the background fabric could be cut out and reused in another project. This is very much a work in progress and I will have to pull finger andget it finished before winter turns to spring.

String Quilt from scrap strips.
Darn I still have lots of scraps left over that I really do want to see the back off. Have made so many scrappy quilt tops that I want to restock my fabric stash with new exciting fabrics. Ok, what will I do this time. Inspiration again came from a library book and the blocks began to grow and grow, I love the final look of the joined blocks and know that this may just end up as a wall hanging.
All of the above quilts have been cut and trimmed by the wonderful Fiskars tools - the thread snips, the 5" blade fabric scissors, 60mm rotarory cutter and the micro tip easy grip scissors. These tools made the task a easier and enjoyable. Thanks Fiskars for such great tools.
This is enough for this session will add more at a later date.
